The Contented Little Baby

We’ve come across the following book:

It’s a book about a theory that gets your baby to be sleeping 12 hours through the night asap. Every dads idea of heaven! Being a slower, reluctant reader, my wife has finished the book and I have asked her on numerous occasions to just ‘summarise’ and tell me the important bits. She refused and said, “there’s too much to know. You have to read it yourself.” So I am. And so far, it seems to make a lot of sense.

#1 Don’t ‘jiggle’ your baby back to sleep. Firstly, how on earth can a baby learn to sleep peacefully when they are bouncing round all over the place. Secondly, they need to learn to settle themselves without that movement and connection with you, otherwise they become reliant on it and you.

#2 When you go in to feed at night, don’t pick up the baby and start talking and interacting with it. It’s night time and they need to learn that ASAP. Keep the lights off, don’t make eye contact and definitely don’t start talking to it.

#3 It talks about keeping a ‘strict’ (ish) routine with your baby. The quicker into a routine, the quicker the baby knows who’s boss and the quicker it responds how you want it to.

I’ll keep you posted with new bits and bobs I read. I’m thinking it’s a good theory to play with. Has anyone else come across it? Thoughts?
